Klondike solitaire online: where to play and how to win
Reviewed · Every classic solitaire, and where to play it online
Klondike is the solitaire most people know: seven columns, four foundations and a stock you draw from one or three cards at a time. The best online version lets you pick Draw 1 or Draw 3, undo freely and finish automatically.
Picks are editorial, from the publisher of Solitaire Online (solitaire-online.com). They are not a measured ranking of every place to play these games.
How Klondike plays
Twenty-eight cards are dealt into seven columns, one to seven cards deep, with the top card of each face up. The other 24 form the stock. Build columns down in alternating colours, move ordered runs as a unit, and send cards up to four foundations from Ace to King by suit. Only a King, or a run headed by one, can fill an empty column.
How to win more Klondike games
- Uncover before you tidy. A move that turns over a face-down card is almost always better than one that only rearranges face-up cards.
- Work the longest columns first. The hidden cards in columns six and seven are the ones most likely to block you late.
- Do not empty a column without a King to put there. An empty column with no King in reach is wasted.
- Hold back low cards when they still have a job. Sending a red 4 home is not free if a black 3 needs it in the tableau.
- In Draw 3, count the stock. Playing one card from the waste changes every later triple, so a stuck stock can open after a single move.
What the best online Klondike needs
Both draw modes, stated clearly. Unlimited undo through stock turns. Hints that prefer moves uncovering hidden cards. One-tap auto-complete once every card is face up. On a phone, seven readable columns in portrait. Rule details such as redeal limits vary between sites, and they change how often you win.

Questions & answers
What percentage of Klondike games can be won?
Research by Blake and Gent estimates about 82% of deals are winnable if every hidden card is known. Real players, who cannot see hidden cards, win fewer, especially in Draw 3.
Is Klondike the same as Solitaire?
In everyday English, yes. Klondike is the game Windows called Solitaire, so most people use the two names for the same game.
