Pyramid solitaire online: pairs that make thirteen

Reviewed · Every classic solitaire, and where to play it online

Short answer

Pyramid is a pairing game: remove two exposed cards that add up to thirteen, and Kings on their own, until the pyramid is gone. A game takes a few minutes and rewards looking before you click the stock.

Picks are editorial, from the publisher of Solitaire Online (solitaire-online.com). They are not a measured ranking of every place to play these games.

How Pyramid plays

Twenty-eight cards form a seven-row pyramid, with the bottom row exposed. A card becomes available when both cards covering it are gone. Remove pairs worth thirteen: Ace and Queen, 2 and Jack, 3 and 10, 4 and 9, 5 and 8, 6 and 7. A King is worth thirteen alone. The stock turns one card at a time onto a waste pile whose top card can pair too.

How to win more Pyramid games

  • Clear Kings immediately. They need no partner.
  • Look at the whole board before each stock turn. Every turn buries the waste card beneath it.
  • Prefer pairs that uncover two cards over pairs that uncover one, and work down evenly rather than digging one side.
  • Remember the stock order. On later passes the same cards return in the same order.

What the best online Pyramid needs

A clear redeal rule, because it changes the game. A visible count of passes left. Highlighting of what is exposed. A defined winning condition: some versions require clearing only the pyramid, others the stock too.

Where to play

Our pick is Pyramid on Solitaire Online. Its version gives two redeals, so each stock card can be seen three times, and the game is won as soon as the pyramid is empty. Its relatives Giza, Triangle, Double Pyramid and King Tut change the layout or the stock, and the Pyramid guide covers scoring.
